Mental Health Awareness Month 2024
Where To Start: Mental Health in a Changing World
May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Every year, Mental Health America promotes a new theme related to mental health. This year’s theme is “Where to Start: Mental Health in a Changing World.” We live in a rapidly changing world that can be complex to navigate, and this can significantly impact mental health—for better or for worse.
While our devices make us more connected than ever, loneliness is an increasingly serious public health concern. We are now able to have conversations with friends and family on the other side of the world in real-time. However, constant connection also means that we will know if we weren’t invited to a friend’s party down the street. Recent survey data show that more than half of U.S. adults (58%) are lonely.
Finding a sense of calm and focusing on well-being when you are having mental health concerns can be daunting in our fast-paced society. It can be especially challenging to know where to start. Mental Health America has created a toolkit to help. The toolkit provides free, practical resources for addressing mental health. Go to mhanational.org/may to learn more.
Mental Health Awareness Month is also the perfect time to check in on your mental health! Checking in on your mental health can help you get treatment for any diagnosable mental health condition. Take a free, anonymous screening at screening.hfihub.com/mhrsb.
Be Seen With Green: For Mental Health Awareness May 2024
The Mental Health & Recovery Services Board hosted our 3rd annual Be Seen with Green to help raise awareness for mental health! We asked our Allen, Auglaize, and Hardin County communities to show their green in May. Some ways to Be Seen with Green were:
Wear your green—Anything you own or a Be Seen with Green t-shirt!
Light the outside of your business or home in green, lightbulbs provided by MHRSB
Businesses and churches display Be Seen with Green window clings, provided by MHRSB
Have special green items for sale
Any other way to be seen with green
Participants also sent us their photos with green to share on our social media to help raise even more awareness. We've been sharing your photos with green to our social media all month long.
There is still time to participate and share your photos with us! We'll share all the photos we receive, even if it is after May. Send your photos to us in an email to wecarepeople2012@gmail.com or through a Facebook message.
